Trash:
All plastic trash bags must be clear (Mandated by OCRRA). Trash includes the following:
- Paint cans when dried and empty
- Combination paper/metal containers
- Food waste
- Small appliances
- Kitchenware - silverware, cups, glassware, dishes, ceramics, and paper plates
- Carbon paper
- Folders with metal parts
- Auto and mirror glass
- Light bulbs
- Plastic toys
- Wax coated cardboard
- Hard cover books
- Cottage cheese and yogurt containers
- Styrofoam
- Medicine bottles
- Driveway sealer containers (when emptied and dried)
- All trash should be placed in clear plastic bags or trash barrels with appropriate stickers
- Furniture and mattresses can be put along side the trash with the appropriate number of stickers
Trash Stickers and Pickup:
- Commercial entities must purchase green stickers, which can be purchased at the Village Clerk’s Office or most local stores in the Village
- One sticker is good for thirty pounds of trash, half sticker for fifteen pounds or less
- Remember, if you use trash barrels to put the sticker on the top item in the can not on the lid or the barrel
- Please have trash and recyclables out by 7:00 am on your collection day only. The only time your collection day will change is if the holiday falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday. If this occurs check the Eagle Bulletin for any schedule change
- Green Stickers are no longer needed for regular residential trash.
Construction Debris:
Construction debris is not picked up by the Village of Manlius. Debris must be disposed of by the home owner or private contractor. Such items include wood, concrete, fencing, drywall, roofing, ceramic toilets and sinks.
Yard Waste:
- Brush or leaves neatly piled along the edge of the road (not in the road)
- Small branches, wood and stumps with a maximum diameter of 6 inches and maximum length of 6 feet
- Wood and stumps bigger than 6 inches must be hauled away by the home owner or private contractor
- The Village of Manlius does not pick up sod, dirt or rock
Tires:
Car tires without rims Must have 5 stickers per tire and be placed next to the trash.
Truck tires without rims Must have 7 stickers per tire and be placed next to the trash.
White Goods with Freon:
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers will be picked up after a fourty dollar ($40.00) Freon removal is paid. This payment can be made at the Village Clerk’s Office.
White Goods and Other Metals:
No stickers are required for any items that are metal such as: stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, hot water tanks, sinks, tubs, lawn mowers, snow blowers, bicycles and other metal objects.
Hazardous Household Materials:
Paints, pesticides, poisons, etc. can be taken to OCRRA at Rock Cut Rd. on certain dates. Call 453-2870 for information.
Flourescent Bulbs:
Residents should make an appointment for OCCRA's next Household Hazardous Waste Day or visit OCCRA's community collection center. Also, most local ACE & True Value Hardware Stores.
Small Household Batteries:
Put in orange battery bags and can be put out for curbside collection only during the month of July. You can also drop batteries off year round at Wegmans or OCRRA’s Rock Cut Rd. Transfer Station.
Propane Tanks:
Propane tanks can be disposed of at Agway or Energy Gases.
Microwaves or Televisions:
These items can be disposed of at OCRRA’s transfer station for a fee. Call (315) 453-2870.
Computers:
Computers need to be recycled through a computer company. Call OCRRA at (315) 453-2870 MOTOR OIL. All outlets that sell motor oil, including gas stations and quick oil change stations are required by law to accept used motor oil and some may accept anti-freeze too.
Recycling:
- Paper Items: non-soiled newspapers, office paper, magazines, telephone books, catalogs, junk mail, envelopes, brown bags, boxboard (flattened and plastic liners removed) like cereal, tissue, pet food, detergent, pizza and gift boxes
- All the above should be put into brown bags or tied neatly in bundles, placed in or next to the blue bin
- Corrugated cardboard should be flattened and folded into a maximum bundle of 36’x36’x6” and tied. Please protect all from rain and snow
- All seasonal wrappings and greeting cards (without foil, glitter or metallic material) can also be put into brown bags
- Metal cans with lids, empty aerosol cans, aluminum trays, plates and foil. Please remove all food items
- Waxed paper milk and juice cartons, rinsed thoroughly and flattened
- Glass food, beverage, liquor, wine and deposit containers. Please rinse clean and remove lids, leave labels
- All plastics labeled 1 or 2 on them
- Styrofoam bubble wrap is recycled at some UPS stores. Please call ahead
